Origins #58 - Back to VLOGing and Starting to SLOG

In this series we are documenting the journey of building DULO, starting from Day 1. Every week we publish a new chapter that takes you behind the scenes of our process. With every article, we want to provide value to you, the reader. We share the success and failures, the opportunities and the challenges that we face while executing our vision.

If you are new, check out our previous post.

Don't create friction for your audience

A good quote that. It means creating various content and catering for all the different habits, preferences and mediums on which people may follow you and consume your content.

Some people like listening to audio while driving. Other's prefer to relax with a good old YouTube VLOG. Some may even be reading a non-work related BLOG during WORK 😱

So, after a break of a few months with the underlying theme of #excuses, the weather in Amsterdam etc., we recorded VLOG #37 and plan on keeping it going strong moving forward.

On the audio side, in addition to our weekly podcast where we interview small business owners, discussing their early days, we will be adding a 3x per week segment called a "SLOG" (sound log, quite proud of that name, I'm hoping I'm the first one to think of it), where we will give short updates/thoughts on what we're up to.

We also migrated from SoundCloud to Anchor for all our audio content creation. A good time to note that if you have a podcast or are thinking about starting one, do check out Anchor, speaking from experience I can that it is the most frictionless way of creating a podcast.

Another thing we are thinking about giving a second try is influencer marketing and specifically on Instagram. First time around, we didn't have great success with it, given we didn't really give it that much of attention and research prior to approaching it.

This time we'll approach more people and do more research on their account, following and engagement rates. If we find any interesting partnerships we'll go ahead and give them a whirl.

If you happen to have any experience with influencer marketing, any tips will be appreciated, feel free to drop a comment below!

On the sales side, a factor I am encouraged by big time is that our return rate is still 0%. I don't expect it to stay at 0 forever, but I think we have an opportunity to create a business with return rates WAY below the industry averages, which in turn social proofs the product, is a morale boost for us and our manufacturing partners, as well as making our operation and financial ROI much more positive.

Another week, another few bricks in the wall of this new house we call DULO 😉
